A Study for Application of Sleep Pattern Disturbance, Impaired Physical Mobility, Ineffective Airway Clearance Diagnosis, Using NANDA Classification

Abstract
This study was designed to identify whether the diagnosis of Sleep pattern disturbance, Impaired physical mobility, Ineffective airway clearance diagnosis of NANDA could be applicable to Korean nursing practice or not.
The concrete purpose of this study was to identify the frequency and ranks of etiology and defining characteristics in above three diagnosis and to find the other defining characteristics which appeared in Korean nursing practice but not in NANDA diagnosis.
The subject of this study was 426 patients who admitted to Chung-Ang University hospital, located in Seoul and had one of those three diagnosis, between September 19th and October 27th in 1990. The Results were as follows:
1) The total number of etiology in 136 diagnoses of Sleep pattern disturbance was 203 and the mean was 1.5. The total number of those defining characteristics was 452 and the mean was 3.3.
2) The total number of etiology in 186 diagnoses of Impaired physical mobility, was 274 and the mean was 1.5. The total number of those defining characteristics was 309 and the mean was 1.7.
3) The total number of etiology in 104 diagnoses of Ineffective airway clearance was 138 and the mean was 1.3. The total number of those defining characteristics was 225 and the mean was 2.2.
4) The rate of revealed in etiology of Sleep pattern disturbance were that Illness 65.4%, Environmental changes 53.7%, Psychologic stress 28.7% in order.
5) The rate of revealed in defining characteristics of Sleep pattern disturbance were that Verbal complaints of difficulty in falling asleep 47.8%, Awakening earlier or later than desired 34.6%, Interrupted sleep 33.1%, Not feeling well-rested 29.4% in order.
6) The rate of revealed in etiology of Impaired physical mobility were that Pain and discomfort 48. 4%, Musculoskeletal impairment 39.2%, Intolerance to activity; decreased strength and endurance 22. 0 % in order.
7) The rate of revealed in defining characteristics of Impaired physical mobility were that Limited range of motion 38.7%, Decreased muscle strength, contol, mass 35.5%, Inability to purposefully more
within the physical environment 23.9% in order.
8) The rate of revealed in etiology of Ineffective airway clearance were that Tracheobronchial Infection, Obstruction, Secretion 90.4%, Decreased energy and fatigue 32.7% in order.
9) The rate of revealed in defining characteristics of Ineffective airway clearance were that Cough, effective or ineffective, with or without sputum 77.9%, Fever 36.5%, Dyspnea 24.0% in order. While Cyanosis was 1.0%.
